Dana Scarano LMT, CD

Dana Scarano, a Hudson Valley native, is a (DONA) Certified Birth Doula and a New York State Licensed Massage Therapist specializing in prenatal and postpartum massage. As the daughter of a Massage Therapist, she was fortunate to have been exposed to the art of healing through therapeutic bodywork at an early age. She learned the importance of nurturing others and especially relished spending time with children and babies throughout her teenage years. Studying both classical ballet and modern dance from early childhood, she pursued her lifelong exploration of self, the body and its amazing possibilities.

Inspired by her mother’s love of massage, she began her formal training in therapeutic massage at The Swedish Institute of Massage in 1994. Studying Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and Medical Massage fed her curiosity and passion for the human body. Simultaneously, she continued her dance training and after graduating from massage school, she danced professionally with modern dance companies Impulse Theatre and Dance and The Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company.

Specializing in prenatal and postpartum massage fostered Dana's initiation into the amazing world of pregnancy and birth. In 2001 while completing her training to become a Birth Doula, some of her prenatal massage clients invited Dana to attend the births of their children. She has been assisting parents in navigating through the profound experience of childbirth ever since. In 2005 she received her Birth Doula Certification through Doulas of North America (DONA) .

Dana has a local private massage and labor support practice in Ulster Park, NY. She offers office and home visits in the surrounding Ulster and Dutchess county areas and has been providing massage part time at Omega Institute Wellness Center in Rhinebeck NY since 1997. She also loves teaching infant massage modalites to parents who are eager to learn and share the art of massage therapy with their babies. Dana lives with her loving husband and their son. She feels very blessed and loves her work!
