Tips for Receiving Massage

  • Check the date and time of the service you have booked. Please plan to come a few minutes before your appointment so we can begin on time.
  • Be sure to fill out the client questionnaireand bring it with you to your first session.
  • Eat lightly if your session is scheduled after a meal.
  • As a courtesy to your therapist, please try to bathe before your service.
  • Bring warm, comfortable clothing to put on after your massage.
  • Jewelry should be removed before the session.
  • The recipient’s only job is to relax as completely as possible. Breathe deeply and regularly, stressing the exhalation and allow the body and its parts to become very heavy and sink into the table. As the practitioner’s hands locate areas of tension, consciously try to let go and relax these areas. Imagine yourself as a “rag doll.”
  • Do feel free to give feedback if any manipulation is uncomfortable or if you would like something done longer or differently. Remember, the massage is for you.
  • Talk for the most part is distracting and unnecessary. Good massage requires concentration on the part of the practitioner. Great massage is created out of a meditative space between practitioner and recipient.
  • Close your eyes. See with your sense of touch. Feel your body both inside and out. Closing your eyes in the massage experience is a good way to bring your center of energy out of your head and into your body.
  • If emotions surface, don’t be afraid to express them. The body is the seat of emotions and sometimes during massage, emotions will surface. Receiving a massage is a wonderful opportunity to release and work through them.
  • At the conclusion of the session, allow yourself a moment to feel your relaxed and rejuvenated body. Gently come to a seated position before coming to onto your feet.
  • Drink plenty of water after your session to flush out any toxins that may have been released during the session.
